#6 Alberto Rodriguez
Alberto is our sixth Pass-it-Forward honoree and was nominated by Steve Dubiel because of his exceptional qualities as an ambassador for the environment and as one of the next generation of leaders for the environmental movement. Steve describes Alberto as “passionate, committed, and someone who inspires people around him to act.”
First, the environmental movement desperately needs to elevate a new generation of leaders. We need to broaden our appeal and inspire people to act out of the hope of what is possible instead of out of fear. Alberto embodies those aspirations and so much more. Alberto is an exceptional ambassador for the environment.
Alberto is the Program Manager at Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition/Technical Advisory Group (DRCC/TAG) in Seattle, Washington. He works to inform, educate, engage, and empower the underserved communities that live in South Seattle’s Duwamish Valley, and to ensure that their voice is heard and well represented in decisions about cleanup of the Duwamish River Superfund Site and surrounding neighborhoods.
Originally from Honduras, Alberto taught Biology, Genetics and Zoology at the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH), and was the Environmental Projects Coordinator and Divemaster at Alton’s Dive Center in Utila, Bay Islands. His projects included coordinating whale shark research and lionfish removal efforts, and managing a sea turtle rescue center and queen conch nursery. While in the U.S., Alberto has worked with environmental non-profits for eight years, as an EarthCorps International Crew Leader and Toxics Program Coordinator for People For Puget Sound, before joining DRCC/TAG in 2011. In his spare time, Alberto enjoys scuba diving, paragliding, hiking, camping, reading, dancing, independent movies and live music.
